A colleague and I are running a four day wildlife activity at school this week: Project Wild Thing! We have spent out first day looking at minibeasts - see what we found and what we got up to here:

Days 2 and 3 of our school activities week - Project Wild Thing: Birds and Badgers. We've had an amazing time meeting barn owls at Pensthorpe and catching and ringing birds on our school site. Have a read here: http://wildlifelocalpatch.blogspot.co.u ... y-2-3.html

This morning, I couldn't believe my eyes at the number of birds that were on our feeders, so I had to take a video and write a short blog about it: http://wildlifelocalpatch.blogspot.co.u ... uffet.html

Not only have we had an extraordinary visit to Strumpshaw Fen, but I've also been reading Landmarks by Robert Macfarlane. I've learnt some new words which I've included in my post and tried to write in a more literary fashion that I have of late. I hope you enjoy it:

My latest post about a week long trip on a narrow boat in the canals around Wolverhampton and Birmingham. We saw plenty of birds, but few insects. I hope you enjoy reading about our encounters: http://wildlifelocalpatch.blogspot.co.u ... anals.html

My latest post about visiting Strumpshaw Fen. A particularly impressive day for butterflies, especially the common blue we were lucky to encounter just before we left:

New post today about my wildlife watching on the last weekend of the summer holiday at Pensthorpe and Strumpshaw Fen - we saw king fishers and a great egret!

Finally, a new update! I've been out early morning canoeing looking for otters and up at Foxley looking at fungi. Enjoy!
