Apps

Right then folks, hands up those who have an iPod Touch or iPad.

Those that do, I bet you've trawled the App store looking for good wildlife guides, environmental bits and bobs.

So has anyone found anything that's worth checking out and if so how much was it? Also is there an avoid at all costs?
I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Not really an app (besides I'm running the much superior Android :D ) but there are loads of field guides etc which can be downloaded as PDFs from various websites. I've had a lot of use from them this spring.
The http://www.opalexplorenature.org/ website has several good ones from amphibians to trees!

I've also got a load of bird calls on MP3 as I'm trying to learn them this year, its come in very handy being able to play the 'suspects' when I hear something I don't recognise.

Just another case of smartphones making themselves useful in ways I'd never have dreamt of

None of that for me. The way Apple's going they'll try and have us have everything on one device in the next 50years. So we won't need shelves, books, tv, pc/laptop, radio, DVD's, no nick-nacks from travelling - these will all be available on the device etc etc etc. Basically our houses will have bed, sofa, couple of chairs, bathroom and food in the kitchen everything else will be accessed through a single device at least that's Apple's plan for world domination  ;)
The past is just that, the past. Today is what matters.

You higher mammal, can you read?

Hi
Has anyone tried the easy recorder range (eg Birds, butterflies) of apps for android?

Link here to the https://market.android.com/details?id=adit.recorder version

If so, are they any good for a relative novice?

I haven't tried them I'm afraid but I'd also be interested if anyone else had. I haven't paid for any apps yet mind you and I'm not likely to start anytime soon, I'm such a skinflint!
