BBC Wildest Dreams - Is it ever going to be shown again?

Postby Zimon » Sat May 14, 2011 10:54 pm

hello everyone.

I am trying to find out whether or not BBC Wildest Dreams will be shown again in the future.

I would like to apply as I am a hobbyist wildlife sound recordist who wants to get a placement with the BBC Natural History Unit

If anyone has any information I would love to hear from you. Thanks.

I don't know the show, but, 41 views means nothing as virtually all of them will be from web crawlers. Just go to the main forum page and look near the bottom and you will invariably see several web crawlers active on the forum (whilst I type there are two, Google and Yahoo).

Your question was only posted yesterday and is quite specialised so give it a chance. It may be that you would be best to contact the BBC directly as I would think that only others who have tried to get on the show would know the answer to your question (and I have never heard of the show myself).

Thanks Ian, I appreciate your reply.

Ok I now realise that it was probably web crawlers who visited my post. I will give it a few weeks and return to the thread in due course.

The show was basically like the apprentice but the idea was that people were competing to get a placement with the Natural History Unit.

Hi zimon I watched a similar programme on Animal Planet a few years back. They only did two series because I guess it didn't get the required ratings. May be the same for Wildest Dreams.
The past is just that, the past. Today is what matters.

You higher mammal, can you read?

Hi Zimon. I watched the show and really enjoyed it, I seem to recall that the girl who won popped up in the background of Springwatch a few times, I hope she's doing well in her new career! (that is if we're talking about the same thing! i think it wsa presented by Nick Knowles?)

It was a great show IMO, much better than the apprentice and the likes. I guess its a fairly specialised field though and with limited placements available I doubt the BBC would be able to take on someone in that role every year. It may be that a more traditional route into the industry might yield better results. I know a friend of a friend who is hoping to start working with the natural history unit soon after working for the BBC in other areas for a long time.

As Deimos said, have you tried directly contacting the BBC to find out if the programme is to be repeated?

Hello everyone, yeah thats the same show.

I did try and contact the man who judged the participant's work in the show, James Honeyborne.

I think hes a very busy man and he states on his website that he would post info on the site should anything similair ever come up again...

so i doubt he will get back to me personally.

worth a shot though.

I think Im going to do a degree in a related subject and a masters too, hopefully by the time ive completeed those courses il be accomplished enough to work freelance or for something like the NHU.

Hi, personally this one one of the worst shows I have ever seen and a bit of an insult to people who have actually took the time to either train professionally or put enough personal effort in by going out and teaching themselves like a lot of people seen on Springwatch etc.. in wildlife film making. From what I remember most of the contestants didn't even seem interested or to have basic knowledge in film making or wildlife let alone the tasks they were given each week. If they were to bring the show back I would hope they would vet the candidates better.
