Hello everyone,

After several weeks of Portuguese man o' war strandings I finally got to see some this week! They're incredible - it's like an invasion of rainbow pasties on our beaches.

If anyone's visiting beaches with them on please, please keep dogs on the lead and keep an eye on them and young children - the sting of the Portuguese man o'war is very powerful.

Have a great week everyone,

Hi everyone,

I've been a bit distracted by Portuguese man o'war strandings the last couple of weeks, but have been looking forward to sharing my experiences and finds from the annual Shoresearch week. If any of you live in Cornwall and want to learn more about our shores, this is a perfect way to do it. :D

Hi Everyone,

Halloween's nearly here, so this week's blog has a spooky theme. For a while now Junior has liked the way rock pool creature scientific names sound like Harry Potter spells .... so this week I've had a look at just what defences and weapons you can conjure up (there are so many it was hard to choose).

So, Happy Halloween everyone!

Hi everyone,

As I had a cold last week and the tides weren't great, I stayed in and spent hours trawling through photos of things I hadn't managed to identify on the beaches this year, putting names to blobs.

I love doing things like this - expanding on what I know and tackling some groups that I otherwise tend to overlook as 'too difficult'.

So this week's blog is a collection of the weird and wonderful!

Hi everyone,

It's turning colder in the Cornish rock pools, but there's always lots to see. This week I have a go at finding and photographing hydroids and stalked jellyfish, and find all sorts of other creatures along the way.
