Holiday 2010

Need advice on where to watch wildlife or want to tell others about a great wildlife hotspot?

Holiday 2010

Where are you going on holiday this year and what birds and animals do you hope to see?

We're going up north to County Donegal this year. We'll be walking alot in Glenveigh National Park so I hope to see one of the Golden Eagles. Red Deer would be nice too.

We're also going out to two or three of the islands so I'll be on the lookout for marine wildlife. Risso's Dolphins and Orcas are on my wish list.

We'll be going to Tory Island so I hope to see or at least hear the Corncrakes there.

The thing is, with the family in tow, I probably won't get as much time as I'd like to watch and look....but I can hope, can't I?

Not sure yet. In this country.....hmmmm.....not sure what's out East Anglia way. Will have to look through a couple of books I've got on birds centres and nature reserves. Wouldn't mind going to Wales again, take a walk up Snowdon (took the lazy option last time, went to the top via the train last time), spend time round and at Grigin farm. Further North in Scotland would be nice. Loch Ness area, Isle of Rhum or further into the highlands. Would definately like to revisit the lake district. Plus there's also mainland Europe; the Pyrenees in France, Scandinavia (I really, really want to see the northern lights), the Alps, Greece. Further afield Australia (Uluru is a must), New Zealand (did you know the population of New Zealand is only 4.2million), Canada (bears, wolves, reindeer migration, salmon run), some of the islands in the Caribbean, Peru, Chile, Madagascar, Tanzania, Botswana, Uganda, the Artic..........the choices are endless [:D]

We're hoping to climb Errigal this year.

We were in Donegal for a weekend last May and had planned to climb it then. The problem was, we couldn't see it!

Well it wasn't all bad.

Errigal's loss was my gain. We headed for the coast (and sunnier weather) and were able to sit and watch a couple of Harbour Porpoises swimming around in Tranarossan Bay.

Nice. The one thing I really want to do is watch Orca's either off Scotland or more preferably off Canada.

Don't talk to me about Orcas.

They were in Galway Bay again last year and the evenings we spent going up and down the Clare and Galway coasts looking for them.

Could we find them? Could we bog roll! [:D]

I had great plans for kayaking with orcas off Vancouver Island for my birthday this year, but due to work commitments not going to happen now [:(]

Fingers crossed there maybe some off coast of Scotland!

Kenya for me again this year - Tsavo East, West & Amboselli. Hopefully better views of Kilimanjaro than Sandras views of Errigal.[:)] Also, back to New Forest in the spring.

Forgot about the New Forest. Definately go there again, although will not be going to Beaulieu motor museum again.
