Spring ptarmigan

I have been in the Scottish Highlands for the past two weeks, and amongst various tasks, I have been surveying ptarmigan. Spring is one of the better times to see them when they are paired up, and the males are active guarding their hens and territories. The sexes have moulted into their own appropriate spring plumages, with wonderful camouflage for each. For more:
