Mainly Insects

Postby Chloe.Aldridge.26442 » Wed Apr 26, 2017 11:20 am

Hello,
I'm picking up my blogging again after a long break, but this time I'm going to concentrate mostly on insects, as there are just so many around, and I find it a constantly astonishing and fascinating world! I'm aiming to chronicle the insects I see around me on my local patch (Cheshire), and get a feel for what is around when.
I'm really enjoying seeing the variety of stuff on other people's blogs too!

Mainly Insects: Hanging on in high winds

Postby Chloe.Aldridge.26442 » Thu Apr 27, 2017 11:38 pm

Hi,
Here's another blog from when I went for a walk a few days ago in wild weather in my local Cheshire patch, in some oak woods, and was really surprised to come across some Fairy moths which seemed untroubled by the wind, and also delighted to come across one of the wasps that causes plants to form galls by laying eggs in it. Another occasion when I nearly overlooked something because it looked tiny and insignificant! It was really exciting to realise what it was.
Hope you enjoy the blog.

Bumblebee coordination
Hi,
Been on holiday for a few weeks, and when I got back, was happy to get out and find out what the insects were doing in my local patch! This bumblebee, cleaning itself, caught my eye.

Swollen-thighed beetle
Hello,
It's been great to see one of my favourite beetles again this year, so here is a post about it.

A Quick Sweep
Hi,
This is prime time for insects at the moment, there are so many around. This blog is about a quick dash out to a local nature reserve with a sweep net, to see what I could find. It always amazes me what turns up, even on a quick outing like this!

Scorpionfly encounter
Hi everyone,
This is about a little insect that is relatively inconspicuous, but rewards a closer look. It turns up at this time of year, and is easy to overlook. I love these warm summery days for enabling encounters with a proliferation of life like this!
