How to age frogmouth fledglings

The frogmouth chicks are now all out and about on the branches and as such are at the most noticeable stage to people out for walks in the woods. I am often asked how I can tell the ages of these these birds so here is a quick guide:

One of the best ways to learn about bird moult is to gain a ringing/banding licence. That way you can learn from real life, from birds in the hand, and why different species adopt different moulting strategies to suit their various life-styles.
