I have wanted to see a kingfisher in real life and I have been looking for weeks, how do I find one?

KFs will currently have fully fledged youngsters who will be out and about feeding for themselves right now.
They will need fairly shallow water to feed in, they will feed on small fish and crustaceans. Favoured spots will have a perch/branch/vantage point from which they can sit and look for their dinner.

They prefer slow moving stretches of rivers or still waters. They also like to perch away from any cover that could hide a predator.

You will almost always hear them first and see them flash passed. Once you have heard/seen them you can spend some time looking for a likely perch and hope they come and land for you.

It is not as daunting as it sounds and the rewards are worth it! I spend an awful lot of my time watching and photographing these amazing little birds.
