Sussex Field Notes Journal

Postby SussexFieldNotes » Wed Jul 19, 2017 5:08 pm

(note: I have already posted this but don't think it worked the first time so have started again.)

Hello!
I am posting to introduce a new project on my blog (sussexfieldnotes.wordpress.com) - the Sussex Field Notes Journal Autumn Almanac. This series of blog posts is inspired by a nature diary I kept in 2004, aged 12 years old. This diary, and also the new journal, charts my experiences of the natural world during my favourite time of year. As summer slows and dips reluctantly toward autumn, through harvest time, there are so many natural wonders to be discovered in our fields, woods, hedgerows and gardens.

You can ready more about the inspiration behind the journal, plus the first two instalments over on the blog now, with more content to follow soon! Just go to: https://sussexfieldnotes.wordpress.com/category/sussex-field-notes-blog/sfn-journal-autumn-almanac-series/

My local patch is the area around my home and workplace in the top left hand corner of Sussex, surrounding the historic town of Midhurst and the village of Stedham. I enjoy exploring 'everyday nature' through short lunch break walks on work days, pottering for hours on my allotment, and adventures in the wider countryside with a picnic. My family history has deep roots in rural Sussex (with a dash of Cornish from my Dad's side) and I have a keen interest in the heritage and layers of stories woven into our landscape, and our connection with nature.

I would love to hear from you, so please feel free to get in touch, either replying here, by commenting on the blog, or find me on twitter @SophiEcoWild. It would be great to hear what you think!

Hello all!
With the start of August came one day of sunshine between several days of heavy rain, and I was able to escape for the lunchbreak walk. I headed to the woods and found the new season of harvest time well underway.

Hello! It seems this year that autumn has arrived in August...
It has been days since I saw the swifts, and the robins have started to sing again. Read more here:

I'm back from my travels & back in touch with nature - I've even written a new blog post!
In this post I use the nature diary I kept in 2004 to see what I might have missed whilst away on my summer holidays; what similarities are there between that autumn and this?
