Bearded vulture baffles British birders! When you think of seeing vultures what places come to mind? The hot plains of Africa or southern Europe perhaps, but this week birders in the UK have spotted the first ever wild vulture in the country. The bearded vulture or lammergeier was filmed at the Severn Crossing and was seen in the skies above Dartmoor on Monday. The sighting has sent birders scrambling to the South West to try and catch a glimpse of this incredible bird (I would be joining them if I could).

I recently returned to the UK for a visit, and got the opportunity to watch wildlife in both my home county of Leicestershire and the beautiful north Norfolk coast! I was so lucky seeing a large number of species (despite the typical bank holiday weather).

I am very lucky to see this species from my local patch. Unfortunately though the southern resident orcas we get off Vancouver Island are heading towards extinction. Another orca has been confirmed to have died, the oldest in the population & believed to be the oldest orca in the world, J2 or Granny. So what is causing their decline & why are they heading to extinction?

A recent blog post of mine responding the Martin Hughes-Games opinion on Planet Earth 2. After seeing some slightly outrageous headlines I was surprised to actually agree with him in part. Planet Earth 2 was incredible, there can be no denial, but we should see some more balanced programming on wildlife and conservation (alongside programmes like Planet Earth). What do you think?

Re: Talk Of The Wild- Connel Bradwell on Canada's west coast

The weather has been pretty awful so far this year, so getting out and exploring has not exactly been easy. However despite the Arctic wind I got out and went to find some birds. Saw some beautiful duck species that spend their winter around the coast and a special secretive seabird! Very exciting!

Did you know that Canada has been named the 2017 'Place to Go' by the New York Times and Lonely Planet? Now I don't work for the tourist board, so this is not a promotion. But if you were thinking of Canada in 2017, I have put together a quick guide of some of my favourite places to see wildlife where I live on Vancouver Island, and they're all accessible and completely free! This is just the tip of the iceberg, and if you are interested in visiting and want any advice on where to see wildlife, I will definitely help you out!

My friend in Iceland shared some very exciting news about a new orca calf she spotted in Iceland! The population spend the summer in Scotland!
