Writer comp 2011

Postby Glyn Jones » Wed Jan 05, 2011 9:45 am

Not sure if I'm particularly dumb regarding submitting an entry for this competition, maybe someone could enlighten me.

I wrote a piece to enter, 800 words max as a Word document as demanded by the T's&C's. Filled in the application details, click submit, knocked back with 'entries must be in .txt files' - news to me I thought, nevertheless I proceeded to convert to .txt (render unto Caesar what is Caesar's etc..). Duly completed the application and submitted it again, rebuffed this time by 'File more than 4kb, reduce kb' - again this is news to me. I have scoured the terms/conditions/rules/general blurb etc. Nowhere can I find these parameters.

The piece is no more than 800 words and double spaced as required. How can I reduce the file size?

Hi Glyn

Thanks for bringing this technical error to our attention. We have had a look and been able to sort out the problem. You should now be able to submit the original word doc file - do let us know if this is successful.

Thanks for your patience and best of luck with the competition!

Very best,

Heather

Hello Heather

Thanks for your reply :) and I've tried to submit my entry. Unfortunately, the results were the same :(

Could you ask the boffins to have another look at the problem please? (I've tried switching it on and off and logging back out and in etc etc all to no avail) Not sure what else to try

Is electronic submission the only acceptable means to enter the comp? Or, if all else fails, can one submit an entry by good old-fashioned snail mail? :)

Regards

Glyn

Hi Glyn,

That should be sorted out now, apologies again for the technical faults. We are now able to upload files here at the office, but are aware that other browsers sometimes behave differently. Do let us know if you have any more problems uploading your document.

Thanks again for your patience.

Best,

Heather

Hurrah! I'm so glad we could get it sorted. Can't give anything away, but looking forward to reading all the entries eventually!

Best of luck,

Hello - I'm not sure if this is the right thread to use, but I also have a question re the travel writing comp.
When I submitted my entry I didn't check if I was logged in or not and realised afterwards that it said you have to be logged in to enter.
A message came up thanking me for entering, but just want to double-check that my submission really went through correctly. I haven't received a confirmation e-mail.
Can you help, Heather?
Many thanks!

Hi guys,

Just wondering if those of us here in Australia are allowed to enter the competition. In the rules it says it's open to residents of the UK - but could that also mean that it's not not open to residents outside of that?

Thanks,

Peter
