Appenine chamois photo gallery by Bruno D'Amicis

About the photographer

Trained as a biologist, Bruno D’Amicis is a photographer and conservationist who focuses on mountain ecosystems and wilderness issues.

For almost 10 years, Bruno roamed the Italian Apennines to photograph the local chamois, Rupicapra pyrenaica ornata - one of the world’s most endangered ungulates.

He took pictures of these animals across their range, looking for different light and backgrounds. He hiked hundreds of kilometres, in varied weather conditions, sometimes bivouacking along the way, often alone and always carrying a heavy load.

This project has become a kind of quest, the results of which are revealed in his latest book, Ornata.
