About the camera-trap photo of the year 2010 competition
Our inaugural camera-trap photo competition welcomed entries from around the world. They included captivating portraits, rare behaviour and astonishing new discoveries.
The use of camera-traps has revolutionised the way we study animals in the wild. Researchers and conservationists can now spy on rare and secretive species, gaining insights that would have been impossible to glean just a few years ago.
Our five judges Mark Carwardine, Richard Edwards, Dan Freeman, Charlie Hamilton James and our own Sophie Stafford deliberated long and hard over the 700 entries to the competition. The high calibre and variety of shots made the judging incredibly difficult. Particular weight was given to each image’s contribution to scientific knowledge and conservation.
