Sardine run photo gallery by Dmitry Miroshnikov
Dmitry Miroshnikov lives in Moscow and has been scuba diving for six years. After meeting Alexander Safonov (BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year runner-up 2009) four years ago he was inspired to start a career as an underwater photographer.
He has been shortlisted in the Nature and Wildlife category of the Sony World Photography Awards 2011 and the Golden Turtle wildlife competition.
This gallery features the annual sardine run that occurs off the coast of South Africa. Dmitry took these incredible shots during a 12-day break in Port St Johns, South Africa.
He said, "I spent eight hours a day on a boat in cold water, enduring 4m waves and bad weather, for only one hour of diving time with the baitball, but that hour was one of the most amazing, adrenaline-filled experiences of my life."
