Toque macaques gallery by Barney Wilczak
Wildlife photographer Barney Wilczak got to know the toque macaques that live among the ancient temples of Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka, and his images capture every aspect of their cheeky spirit and behaviour - from foraging for food to social grooming and playing.
Working with the Smithsonian research centre at Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka, wildlife photographer Barney Wilczak worked to show the challenges these monkeys face living between the wilder setting of the archaeological reserve and the neighbouring modern town.
Barney lives and works in the Cotswolds in south-west England. His project-based photography and work with NGOs reflect his desire to promote conservation. He has been recognised in various competitions, taking third place in the GDT Fritz Polking Junior Award 2009.
