African Conservation Experience – A real wilderness adventure in the Okavango Delta – Advertisement

African Conservation Experience - Anna Driver (1)

If you’re passionate about wildlife and adventure, the Okavango Delta in Botswana should be at the top of your travel list.

This inspiring place is home to the largest population of elephants on Earth. It is also a vital migration route for zebra and one of the few remaining habitats of the endangered African wild dog. In 2014, Botswana became the first country in Africa to introduce a nationwide hunting ban. This is a big landmark for conservation and means the wildlife here is thriving.

You’ll join a team of conservation experts based in the centre of the Okavango, surrounded by 360,000 hectares of rivers, bushland and Kalahari desert vegetation. Your role will be to help the team monitor the effects of the hunting ban on wildlife. You’ll spend your days tracking animals across huge distances, recording the movement and populations of species, according to guidelines set out by the Botswana government. You’ll also learn useful bushcraft skills needed to survive in the wilderness.

This is a historical moment for wildlife in Botswana – and the information you collect could have a huge impact on wildlife conservation across the whole of Africa.

  • Help create a new era in wildlife conservation – in the wake of Botswana’s hunting ban, this project is working towards a better future for all Africa’s animals
  • See Africa’s most iconic species – observe elephants, lions, hippos, crocodiles and many other species in their natural environment
  • Explore the infamous Moremi Game Reserve – participate in a game drive through one of Africa’s most biodiverse wildlife reserves
