Chelinda Lodge is situated in Malawi’s oldest and largest area of wilderness – Nyika National Park. The lodge is operated by Central African Wilderness Safaris (CAWS), a leading ecotourism company that was established in Malawi in 1987.
Chelinda Lodge overlooks the park’s spectacular montane grasslands . Wildlife includes large herds of eland, zebra , and roan antelope and Nyika’s famous leopard are often seen near the lodge , which consists of six double-storey log cabins, and one two roomed family unit, the lodge offers a luxurious stay in one of Africa’s most iconic wildlife destinations – that is often said to resemble the Scottish Highlands. Each chalet has a fireplace for the cold winter nights and the ground-floor features an open-plan bedroom and lounge, en-suite bathroom and a veranda. A viewing area upstairs functions as an additional living space – and is well suited for families with children. The main building has an indoor and outdoor dining area and deck that is ideal for sundowners, a lounge with a roaring fireplace and a bar. A variety of activities are available at Chelinda Lodge, including day and night game drives, guided walks, overnight treks such as the Livingstonia Trail and the Sangwala Trail, mountain biking, seasonal fly fishing and visits to the nearby local school. The plateau is also an excellent destination for botanists and birders to explore, and in the rainy season it harbours over 200 orchids and over 400 birds can be seen throughout the park.
