Sir David Attenborough was the most popular choice by far to appear on the new £20 note, according to a YouGov survey involving 2,218 participants.
Last month 40 per cent of participants voted for the conservationist as the ‘ethical champion’ they would most like to see on their bills, followed by Prince Charles (7 per cent) and JK Rowling (4 per cent).
“It’s no surprise that Sir David Attenborough came out top in this poll,” said Charlene Cranny, programme manager at the UK Sustainable Investment and Finance Association.
“With his endless conservation work, he would act as a constant reminder to the public to make ‘ethical’ money choices.”
The poll was conducted by YouGov on behalf of Good Money Week (8–14 October).
Painter JMW Turner has already been chosen as the face of the new £20 note, which is due to enter circulation in March 2019.
