Catherine Smalley
Production editor, BBC Wildlife Magazine
Catherine is production editor at BBC Wildlife, which means she is chief organiser and bossy boots, helping our talented team get each issue to the printers every month. Her role also involves sub-editing the magazine’s pages, making sure everything is factually accurate and grammatically correct. Catherine feels particularly lucky to get to chat to wildlife experts and cool wildlife photographers, and is always learning more. Highlights including interviewing Michaela Strachan about African penguins and seeing baby otters on the wild shores of the Shetland Islands with local photographer Brydon Thomason. Before joining the publishing world, Catherine got her hands dirty as a professional gardener and did an RHS evening course at Bristol Botanic Garden. She’s much more pro-weeds these days but does miss being outdoors all day and when away from her desk likes to pull on her walking boots and get out into the Somerset countryside or onto the South West Coast Path. Whale-watching in the Hebrides or meeting the puffins of Skomer are next on the bucket list.
