In the new BBC TV series Kingdom, the power struggles of four animal families across a Zambian river valley are revealed – and in this first-look clip narrated by David Attenborough, the stakes couldn't be higher.
Pregnant hyena Tandala wakes from a nap to see a pack of wild dogs, led by matriarch Storm, tucking into a fresh kill. Believing it to be an easy opportunity for a meal, Tandala attempts to steal the carcass.
But a pack of wild dogs against one hyena is more difficult than she thinks – and she is soon left in a vulnerable position trying to protect both her back and her belly from their bites.
