Violent fights between female pumas are rare, but in the BBC’s Dynasties II, filmed in the wild highlands of Patagonia, an extraordinary battle unfolds between two mothers: Blinka and Rupestre.
- “The most famous puma in the world”: A ‘celebrity’ cat stalked the Hollywood Hills for 10 years – and his sad fate inspired the world's largest wildlife corridor
- Pumas and cougars guide: what's the difference between them, where do they live and what do they eat?
Both females have cubs, and both want control of a coveted stretch of land by the lake. It's one of the few safe, sheltered places where young pumas can rest and play.
The confrontation escalates quickly into a furious and violent fight with flying claws and deadly bites.
Eventually, Rupestre is overwhelmed. Exhausted and defeated, she has no choice but to retreat and move her family on to higher ground.
