African wild dogs are known for their teamwork and highly social nature – as shown in this heart-wrenching clip from BBC One’s Kingdom.

In Zambia, thousands of cape buffalo start to move towards the Luangwa River.

But in doing so, they trudge ever-closer to pack leader Storm’s hidden hideout, which protects a group of pups.

The dogs work together to drive away the enormous buffalo. But what they can’t prepare for is the sudden collapse of the den – with all of the pups trapped inside.
