An underwater videographer has shared the majesty of the waters around Sipadan Island in Malaysian Borneo

Sipadan is adored by scuba divers worldwide for its thriving marine life and is known as a great spot for seeing turtles.

“As one of the top dive sites in the world, Sipadan Island has been blessed with a myriad of reefs amidst crystal clear blue water,” writes Sabah Parks on its website. “Turtles are common sight here, as they rest and feed in peace within the ledges of the drop-off.”

Underwater videographer Krys Fernandez knows first-hand just how wonderful these waters can be, sharing some magical footage of a surprise turtle encounter on Instagram. “Sometimes Sipadan deemed it fit to gift me with shots like this,” she says.

In the clip, a dense group of jacks parts like a curtain to reveal a turtle swimming calmly behind them. Much to her surprise, the turtle swims straight towards her and right past the camera.

“My mind was completely blown out of the water,” says Fernandez, who also shares her ocean encounters on YouTube. “I spied the turtle within the vortex of jacks, but I didn’t expect it to swim to my direction! Perfection.”
