A new wildlife series from Apple TV celebrates the extraordinary bonds between animals and humans in the face of survival.
Born to Be Wild, which is narrated by actor Hugh Bonneville, follows the lives of six young, endangered animals as they grow up in our world, but are destined to return to theirs.
- “We can still make a difference.” Apple TV’s new wildlife series follows rare baby animals – and the extraordinary efforts to save them
- “I know it’s natural but it’s bloody hard to watch.” There’s one rule in wildlife filmmaking – but this BBC team broke it
The first episode in the series focuses on Sagalee: an Asiatic black bear cub that was found abandoned in the forest.
At the Center for Bear Rehabilitation and Conservation, in Northeast India’s Pakke Wildlife Sanctuary and Tiger Reserve, Sagalee is cared for by wildlife veterinarian Dr. Panjit Basumatary.
But before Sagalee can be released into the wild, he must learn how to forage for honey and climb trees himself. To do this, he needs to learn how to trust Dr. Panjit and his attempts to help Sagalee.

It’s hungry work being a growing bear as during his rehabilitation, Sagalee consumed over 200 litres of milk and 20 jars of honey. But his climbing practice eventually paid off, as he was once spotted climbing a 35-meter tree (the equivalent of a 10-story building).
Born to Be Wild is available to watch on Apple TV now.
