It contains both the largest (hot) desert and the deepest river on Earth and covers around 20 per cent of Earth’s total land area. Now, National Geographic is releasing what it believes to be the most ambitious natural history TV series ever made about the continent of Africa.
Africa Earth’s Wild Home is a seven-part series in the first instalment of an upcoming multi-year franchise.
Filmed over almost four years across nearly 30 countries, the series documents never-seen-before species and behaviours. Each episode focuses on the scientists, photographers and National Geographic Explorers behind the discoveries – while the final episode showcases rising conservation leaders, community-led initiatives and groundbreaking researchers.

Africa Earth’s Wild Home also uses the latest technology and CGI to unearth the history and forces that have shaped the continent we know today.
What wildlife does Africa Earth’s Wild Home feature?
The series highlights little-observed creatures, such as the black rain frog (filmed for television for the first time) and the African black panther. Rarely seen behaviours, such as hyenas hunting elephants at night and chimpanzees using tools to fish for algae, also feature in the series.
Who narrates Africa Earth’s Wild Home?
Academy Award nominee Wunmi Mosaku narrates the series. She is best known for her roles in Sinners and Loki and has also executive-produced Africa Earth’s Wild Home.
Where can you watch it?
Africa Earth’s Wild Home will be available to watch on National Geographic from 3 October, with all episodes streaming on Disney+ from the same date.
