We hate to break it to you but one of the most popular characters in the BBC hit show Death in Paradise isn't real. Yes it's true, Harry the lizard is a creation of Computer-generated imagery, or CGI.
What species is Harry the lizard in Death in Paradise?
If Harry was a real lizard what species would he be? The chances are he is an anole - a tropical lizard, related to iguanas, that live in the warmer regions of the Americas and Caribbean.
Death in Paradise is filmed on Guadeloupe, a group of five Caribbean Islands, which is home to the Anolis marmoratus also known as leopard anole, Guadeloupe anole, or Guadeloupean anole.
There are a number of subspecies, a few of which could be Harry but perhaps one of the main contenders is Anolis marmoratus speciosus. These have a bright green trunk and abdomen - just like Harry.
However Harry seems to have had rather a long life given we are now in our 13th series - and anoles in the wild don't live much longer than five years. He also doesn't seem to have aged much... and is as spritely as ever. We just can't help feeling a little disappointed he isn't real.
