An underwater videographer has shared an adorable video of two incredibly timid animals hanging out together.

Underwater content creator Ibbe Shifan (Moodhumeehaa) who shared the footage of the yellow boxfish and banded pipefish on Instagram says it’s "by far” his favourite of all the underwater videos he’s ever captured.

“It is so hard to capture both animals in one shot in focus,” says Shifan. “Both are very shy in nature.”

In the foreground of the video, a small brightly coloured yellow boxfish (Ostracion cubicum) pootles around in front of the camera. The cute juvenile might look lost because of its directionless swimming but don’t underestimate them.

“Despite their awkward shape, they're agile swimmers and use their pectoral fins to navigate reefs,” he says. “A cool defence mechanism they have is releasing a toxin when stressed, which can harm nearby fish.”
