What is Bug Out about?

Bug Out is a whodunnit about the the biggest known live insect burglary in history. The documentary series shines a light on a stranger-than-fiction robbery and its bizarre cast of bug smugglers, dealers and collectors.

It is set in the US’s first bug zoo, the Philadelphia Insectarium & Butterfly Pavilion.

In August 2018, the museum’s boss, Dr John Cambridge arrived at work to find a room that should have been full of invertebrates, was empty. Thousands of critters, worth approximately £38,000, had been stolen.

While investigating the crime Philadelphia police uncover a seedy subculture of bug poachers, obsessive collectors and illicit smugglers.
