Humpback whales played a starring role in BBC One's
episode
Husain was selected partly for her work on the BBC’s thrilling series, The Hunt, which focuses on predation in the natural world.
Husain wrote about her fascinating experience working on The Hunt: Hunger at Sea in the December 2015 issue of BBC Wildlife Magazine, as well as sharing her staggering photography of humpback whales.
Trained as a marine biologist, and with an affinity for art as well as science, Husain was well suited to turning her hand to documentary filmmaking.
In addition to The Hunt, Husain has also worked on the BBC’s South Pacific, and the Emmy-nominated BBC One series Ocean Giants.
Being named as a BAFTA Breakthrough Brit, Husain will be eligible to take place in a year-long mentoring and guidance programme, run by BAFTA in partnership with Burberry.
The programme help to support emerging talent in the UK across film, TV, and games industries.
Commenting on the achievement, Ellen said: “I’m really excited that BAFTA is supporting wildlife film makers, and as someone who cares deeply about the marine environment and the world’s wildlife, ultimately I hope BAFTA’s backing will help me make a difference through my work.”
